A bit of history: When slaves rebelled against the British, they generally lost because the British had guns. The Maroons evened the playing ground by escaping into the thick foliage. When the British followed in their red coats, they were easily ambushed by the Maroons that had draped themselves with the foliage. The British were unable to see them and hence defeated. The Maroons celebrate every year with a huge festival.
